Cultural Rock & Pop

Monday, February 20, 2006

Texas Radio Band are recommended by the Fred Perry "Sub Culture : Up & Coming" bands on their website, alongside The Longcuts and The Rifles (Robin 'ood - couldn't resist!). More info here: http://www.fredperry.com/subculture/index.asp

BBC Radio Cymru Rock & Pop Awards then... after some farcical oversight of the original venue not having some kind of license or other, the awards ended up being moved to Llandudnos Conference Centre. Can't really remember who won what; Radio Luxembourg picked up two or three, record label partner Dyl Mei picked up the production award for some fifth year running and Gwyneth picked one up, my memory is very vague. Saw Radio Luxembourg perform who i've not seen since the Texas Radio Band tour last year - "Piws, whats the use". I also got my first proper look at Genod Droog (Friday night in Hendre was a bit of a shambles - too much wine) - a grandstand finish. Good night, topped off by just being a short taxi back making last orders in my local. The night can be heard again on BBC Radio Cymru tonight, details here; http://www.bbc.co.uk/c2

Going back to culture again, the BBC2 Culture Show were also at the Rock & Pop Awards in Llandudno doing some filming for a feature on their show - i'm sure it'll be aired soon.

TRB Update & Stuff

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

Texas Radio Band will be reunited as a unit in the confines of a Cardiff recording studio and rehearsal room during early March to continue work on their second album. From the material we've heard from last years demo sessions in Bryn Derwen, and from the demos sent over from Matthews cave in Spain - it's going to be something really worth the wait! The cave thing; no that's true, Matthew (Mini) threatened to mail us a dead scorpion he had to remove last year.

The band don't plan to do any live shows, and will be putting their efforts and their short time-frame together (before Matthew returns to Spain) into recordings. Expect to see them re-appear in the Summer, live dates n' all.

The reviews for "Oscillation - New Way To Feel" (SLAC009/BS02) are trickling in, and can be read on the records page in our catalogue. Big thanks to Mark Riley for giving it a spin on his BBC 6 Music Show "Mint", Neil Crud for the Link2Wales radio play (and giving something of an exclusive playing The Delta Fiasco on the show Neil, superb mate!), and all at XFM who have given it airplay.

Recommended listening: Demian Castellanos' other project aside from "Oscillation", called "The Orichalc Phase" - myspace.com/theorichalcphase

Genod Droog gig this Friday night at Bangors Hendre Hall, I'll try be there...

Slacyr MySpace
We've followed just about everyone else and set ourselves up with a MySpace...space. We'll be revolving the songs around in the player on a whenever basis.

Links to other related artists and friends are all found on there. Enjoy!

This years BBC Radio Cymru RAP (Roc a Pop) Awards is here again, and this year i'm told is back in Barcud TV Studios, Caernarfon on Saturday 18th February, for broadcast on Radio Cymru Monday 20th. Nominations which involves related artists to the label are as follows:

Cyfansoddwr / Songwriter: Gwyneth Glyn
Cynhyrchydd / Producer: Dyl Mei
Artist Benywaidd / Female Artist: Gwyneth Glyn
Artist Gwrywaidd / Male Artist: Ed Holden
Sesiwn C2 / C2 Session: Gwyneth Glyn

For full details of nominations click here.

Last time at Barcud (Feb 2002), 'blur' would be the word. Remember being on a table with Pep Le Pew, Rebecca of the band "Science", Lewis Clwb Malu Cachu, Debs Prowse Welsh Bands Weekly and my mate Dave - (if your at all reading - hello). A "Relax enjoy life" speech from Ceri C of Anweledig, a shambolic-yet-all-the-better-for-it Pep Le Pew performance with Ed slipping in the puddles of spilt red wine on the stage, a taxi full of awards onto Club Medi, and then awaking in the aftermath of it all on the floor of a house in Trefor with most of those mentioned above.
