Single Of The Week

Rough Trade
Single Of The Week
Oscillation - New Way To Feel (Bee & Smoke / Slacyr)

cracking little psych rock blue vinyl seven inch single from multi-instrumentalist demian castellanos on bee and smoke records. 'new way to feel' is soaked in a real dirty sixties tranceout sound that recalls the like of silver apples, spiritualized and 13th floor elevators. it's primitive and basic like all good psych music should be. limited and our pick of the week.

Piccadilly in Manchester also have it as a recommended single this week - available on-line, and with audio sample www.piccadillyrecords.com

Slip Through Your Senses

Oscillation - New Way To Feel: Explained. The standout A-side has been with me for about a year; on my home computer, my computer at work, my mp3 player, and burned to countless numbers of CD-Rs for the car. I got to hear it through Jimmy @ Bee & Smoke, who was friend and engineer to Demian (The Oscillation) at the studio where he was laying down demos for a company we probably can't name. Things fell through with the demos for one reason or another. John Fortis later became involved through another studio engineering job Jimmy was involved in a few months later, who also took to the demo track and got Mikey B (the stand-up drummer of Art Brut) to play on the record in downtime at Miloco studios - and we pretty much had the result, on nice blue vinyl.

About the track: I personally love it, that's a given. It's what you'd get in a fantasy sitaution if you were to have Bobby Gillespie front Spacemen 3 - a slac-bouncy-cool-space-rock-anthem, with some great lyrics - and not to mention a great sleeve to boot (even Dyl agrees with me on that one!).

Anyhow, Genod Droog are playing Toucan (formerly Journeys on Newport Rd there) in Cardiff tonight, highly recommended - as is the Radio Luxembourg gig in Cardiff Barfly - meanwhile i'm finishing up the labels accounts this afternoon, then on the piss round Conwy (familiar Marc? Yes, i will get to Cardiff soon).

EDIT: Sad news today, as we hear Grandaddy officially split-up. Buying that ticket off a tout in Manchester last time they were touring the UK for £40 now doesnt seem so bad! A dose of Brokendown Comforter Collection and Under The Western Freeway is in order.

Slacyr Accounts..."I'm sure i could make a great dinner jacket out of this lot"...

The deadline for tax returns fast approaches for those slac enough to have let it got this late. So here i am, another night at it, trying to sort this lot out (pictured) - the Slacyr accounts, any offers?...

Whilst doing them though, my stereo has been graced with the sublime album by "El Goodo" (thanks Alun!), highly recommended! Plus the excellent "Acid Casuals - Omni" record, all getting me through this number crunching, placidly casual.

Another batch of Gwyneth Glyn "Wyneb Dros Dro" albums arrive back from the factory at Genod Droogs pad in Tremadog tomorrow (thanks Ed for being in to sign for them!), and so will once again be available from our PayPal shop.

News on Texas Radio Band, Oscillation, and the podcast soon.

..."There we go, ive posted to the Blog.... back to the accounts"...

Blogs & Pods

Friday, January 06, 2006

Happy new year to all, and no, we've not had our website hacked, this *is* an update to the Slacyr website. We're looking forward to (hopefully) a host of record releases this year, but thought we'd start the year here with a Blog and a website overhaul. Another web treat will be added shortly in the form of an exclusive podcast. Which will, i think, include snippets of Texas Radio Band new material (demo'd during 2005 - more news on that and them in the next post), a live session track by Gwyneth Glyn, a chat with the usual suspects in the Slac fold, and other.... stuff. The podcast is in the capable hands of Dyl Mei, so you know what to expect!

In this first blog post, i'd best introduce the new member into the fray, joining myself (Marc) and Dyl Mei... is someone I met in lecture rooms of The University College of Chester back in the late 90's, who gave me a demo tape of a little known Porthmadog band he was in called "Hyrbi", now of course drummer with "Kentucky AFC", and new project "Genod Droog", welcome to the stage >>> Gethin Evs.

Apologies to the many customers who ordered the "Gwyneth Glyn - Wyneb Dros Dro" album over our PayPal shop and experienced delay receiving the record. We completely ran out of stock, and had to rush our 2nd repress of the album.

Anyhow we'll be keeping you a lot more informed these days - Dyl and Gethin also have access to the Blog, so expect posts to flutter between Welsh & English, Sense & Nonsense etc.
